Looking for Mauser Mm410 owners with question....

Not an trainer, but......
I just had the luck to get an Mm410, SN 45043.
The bolt has an fixture that i have never seen before on the early models, but maybe on this model Mm410 it was usual?

I have an early ES340N with the same mechanism. It appears that it stops the rifle from being fired if the bolt is partially open.

Could you give me an pic ?

The "mechanism" holds the bolt in the closed and open position, it doesnt work on the firing pin. Also, as usual, the bolt is hold slightly in position by an nose at the extractor, like all early or first series models.

Just checked my Mm410. Sn 451xx. Very close to yours. Same setup. Never really noticed it before. Of all of the Mauser .22s this model is a real gem and my favorite.

In addition to holding the bolt closed, it includes a firing pin block which keeps it from firing when the bolt is not closed.

Thanks for this!!!!

I have spoken to Jon Speed, also he thinks the idea behind this bolt feature was to prevent the unscrewing of bolt plug and bolt when the bolt is taken out of rifle.
There is no contact to the striker etc., so it cannot prevent "firing" if bolt is not fully closed. This feature looks to be only on Mm410.

I looked at a couple of ES340N rifles this morning.
97798 has the exact mechanism as in your picture. The bolt in numbered 798
98146 was machined for the mechanism but it is missing. The bolt is numbered 146
I have at least one more but our electricity just failed, so it is difficult to look in the dark!
Clearly it is not just 410's

Found it. ES340N 98247 also has the mechanism!

Could you give me an pic from the bolt for comparision?

Pictures as requested. Upon close inspection I agree that mechanism is a detent to keep the back part of the bolt from rotating.

Note that this rifle is set up with a German WEKU 4 power scope. Likely from the 50s or 60s. I would really like to mount a more appropriate period scope with a higher sight line.

Looking to purchase any original mounts that will fit the 11mm dovetails on the German .22s and fit a 22mm diameter scope. Unobtainable in the US so hoping some of the European members may have a source. Please send a PM if you have a set or can suggest a source.

Many thanks for the answers.

So far it looks that late Es350N and Mm410 are equipped with this feature.

I hope to find some Mm410 in higher SN range than 45xxx to get an clear view.

Actually it only appears on a few mid serial number range ES340N rifled. 99271 does not have it and the ES340N rifles between serial number 130000 and 135000 do not have it either.
