Reality is often disappointing. Mauser collecting can be a fickle mistress. I purchased this rifle with the expectations of it being a VZ-23. The crest and stock were both correct for a VZ-23. However, what I received wasn't what I was expecting. Instead of an original VZ-23, it turns out this rifle was a German VZ-23 depot rebuild. Sadly, the stock isn't matching and the upper handguard was bubba'd into place with a non-VZ rear band, so I'll likely replace both as VZ-23 handguards and rear bands are impossible to find. Technically, most of the German VZ-rebulids received new VZ-24 stocks, so I'll probably use one as they're pretty easy to come by. To me, this is a loss since I really wanted an intact VZ-23 for my Czech collection, but realistically, it's more of a wash...
