The 134th G12/34

flynaked

Repo Field Gear Collector
Well I had to pay more for this one than my matching rifle but what are you gonna do?? Except for the action screws it matches, curiously both action screws are a different number but are both correct G12/34 screws of identical finish (they have 4 lock screw cuts instead of 3). Bubba has an incredible picker as this is the 134th rifle built in 1938!

Wow! I have #308 and I thought that was low! Bubba always seems to find the rarest of them to hack up...

Yes he does unfortunately! Also unfortunately I just can’t pass up orphans like this! Haha

At least you can repair the screw holes and they didn't get into the code/date. Worth it.

Yes and I agree Mike but that stock. How much did they butcher it to add that recoil pad? Destroyed the rear of my t block odd sized laminate stock to put one of those on.

It’s not resized at all actually, these stocks are significantly narrower in the buttstock than a K98. Here’s a shot of my 39 showing the BP wrapped around the stock end, just like the G40k’s too.

I'm a little surprised tbh. While it doesn't look re-profiled I'm kind of shocked they didn't take some material off. Did they cut the end flat? It does appear that way in the photo. Any plans to fit an original butt plate?

I choose to put blinders on and not see the stock and bolt damaged by Bubba, let me live my life man!!!!!

Can you make one complete, good rifle out of the two?

If thats the case, thats what I would do, and sell off the remaining parts...

Whaaaat? Split up a matching and one 95% matched rifle to make one m/m rifle? Both stocks have issues, one needs minor repair, the other needs major repair of course but is still manageable. No way I’d split up the 134th rifle from Steyr of WW2.

Did you see the side buttstock picture, the inspections and acceptance are untouched and the lowest is in close proximity to the butt pad. Those rubber butt pads typically come grossly oversized and are often sanded down to fit the stock upon installation. They did chop off just a hair on the end, just enough to flatten it off, won’t be an issue as the material I add back will simply be under the BP of which I do intend to add back.

Sad to see such a rare rifle end up in such condition but I'm glad to see you get this one clay. And it's true Bubba did get his hands on the rare ones thanks Elmer Fudd!

Thanks Jordan and agreed it is rather unfortunate. The auction pictures didn’t quite show the receiver date but I had my fingers crossed it was a 38 and sure enough! Here’s a size comparison with a K98 to illustrate how darn trim the stock is on these.
