Illuminating cartridge with white star having a 79mm black cardboard case as well as a brass base
having half notched beads. The operculum while it is white with a black capital M affixed in relief.
As early as 1940, this 105g cartridge sported the standard size of 83mm and w
black M or, for late manufacturing, a printed M. In addition, the date of manufacture and expiration are
affixed in small black or red on the case; and a black band 1cm high is placed 2.5cm from the base.
The effect produced is a white star that can reach 180-200 meters in height for a period of 2-5 seconds
allowing it to be visible in broad daylight at 7-8km.

Excellent pics Momo. I'd say that's the serial / assembly no. and the marks are the same as on the bottom of a K98k receiver; inspection marks for manufacturing processes by the person(s) at that particular station.
