Sellier stats it’s a yugo capture k98 and has the factory 44 stamped with the yugo crest. Stats it’s a 1942 but how can you tell such thing for sure if it’s a 42 and serial number starts with J119xx on the stock and barrel only. Can you tell by the serial # then? No sight hood for a 42 odd? Also no “H” shape just soiled barrel bands? Sorry not sure on the correct name for them. Any advice helps thank you.

Yes it is a German rifle that was reworked between say 1946 and 1950. How he came up with 1942 I don't know based on what's shown. It certain could be a '42 (originally) I suppose as it is cut for a sight hood so not sure what you mean there? They are more often missing than not. Cleaning rods too.

Thank for the reassurance. Yeah, what’s your thoughts on the sight hood? I see that there’s a few sites that provide original sight hoods and cleaning rods. On the other hand I could leave the hood alone with no cleaning rod. Just want to say that I really happy I found this forum! Thank you guys sooo much. Looking forward learning about these rifles more. I think I need a few books 📚🤔
 
you came to the right place. There is a series of three books written by some guys that are here a lot. Check the member help area at the top of the home page
 
Finding sight hoods and cleaning rods is easy enough. There are a few on this forum with them. I sell them myself.
