nummerngleich kar98 1944 with damage

Hi guys,

Im new here, and I am trying to buy a "nummerngleich" kar98 1944 "dot".
I saw damage in the barrel at 2 inches from the end. A ring caused by an obstruction of a projectile, this was noticed by a gun smith(not manipulated on the damage yet).
The guy shot it 5 times over 50years ago. And never noticed the ring.
The gun has no matching bayonet. And no cleaning rod.
Overall the gun looks fine.

The guy is asking me 900€.

Is this a fair price?
Does the damage make the "nummerngleich" value still worth?

Im hoping to find some advice with you guys !

Thanks in advance!

Hard to say what the rifle is worth without your location. In the US I think the price would be too high with the bore damage. Also, that stock is from a bnz44 and not a dot44.

Dot stock

It is a dot stock. Why do you think its a bnz ?
My location is in Europe btw.

Fooled me with the sanded bolt cutout, looks very much like Steyr.

Price

So what do you guys think what the price range is ?

I was told €250($276) by the gunsmith. (decorative price)
But I get a feeling it is worth more than that. But I can't tell how much.

Are you saying the seller dropped his price from 900euro to 250 euro?
Is the gunsmith saying 250euro is its value? or is that his price to repair it?

I would just save your money and get a better one. If it is matching then it is interesting but not a 900. If it is mismatched then its only good as a shooter but since the barrel is trashed it doesn't fit that role very well. This would be a hard pass for me unless you can get it REALLY cheap.

If the stock and parts are original it has more worth in parts than the smith estimated.
I would offer somewhere a bit more if you want it as a dot example.

I have a similar rifle 100 years old with a slight bulge under the band I got for a few hundred, stock and bolt matches but some parts don't. I would shoot it assuming no more obstruction :D.

The seller originally asked 900euro.

The gunsmith guesses its worth 250euro with this kind of damage.

The seller dropped his price to 450 euro today because I explained what the gunsmith said.

My question is: What do you experienced K98k owners think the price is with this damage? 0 euro ? 250euro ? 100euro ? More ?

Since you cannot shoot it (or you must just be satisfied when you get all your bullets on the target)
I would also say somewhere between 250€-450€ since its original german.
Maybe you can get more if you demitarise it and sell to a collector
Or maybe create a project out of it, have a new barrel installed (eg. Lothar Walther), ZF39 and you have a great shooter.

Maybe split the difference between 250 and 450.

This rifle is only worth the value of the usable/functional parts that it has.
You'd be wise to forget this one and not waste your money.
It's unsafe to fire, so if you have to own it you'll have to rebarrel it unless you're only looking for a wall hanger.:googlie:sorry::faint:
