Seems to be a lot of interest in tan cleaning kits. I have 2 - 1 rco45 that was a gift from a good friend (thanks! I've still never seen one for sale for a decent price!). I also have a tan arr4 cleaning kit. Every original tan arr4 cleaning kit I have seen is marked differently than the blue arr4 cleaning kits. Below is a comparison of 1 late arr4 cleaning kits- the blue one has a 64 marked spoon that has been repaired at best with a weld to the backside- not sure if it's original, but it was in this kit when I got it. The tan kit came from a good source as well and am sure it's as built. I have 3-4 of the arr4 blue kits, and all of them have the late twisted wire chain, but they are all different (like these two are different).

Anyway, 2 kits, one post.....comparison of markings:

In 1944 the Braunschweigische Blechwarenfabik obviously used 5 different stamps for their cleaning kits.

arr4, blue, one line
arr4, tan, one line
arr4, blue, dual line (arr over 4)
arr4, tan, dual line (arr over 4)
rco44, tan, one line

I also have one arr44, blue, in my collection, but I doubt its originality.

Wolfgang,
Can you add more info about the Waffenamts that appears on your kits ?

I have in my collection only a few:

arr4, blue, one line, with WaA57
arr4, blue, one line, with WaA392
rco44, tan, one line, no WaA.

Antoni

Hello,
sorry, I'm on a business trip and won't be back home befor December 12th. Not sure about the WaA markings.
Have one arr4, blue, with WaA20 (Appel), some with WaA57, not sure about the WaA392.
I did not see any rco marked cleaning kit with WaA so far.
I'll let you know.
Wolfgang

Thanks Wolfgang.

Interesting to know that there are also arr4 with WaA20. I had seen only in arr42 and 43.

Have a good trip.

Antoni

Crap, I didn't know there were 2 different arr 4 styles (single and dounble line)

Farb, my arr 4 tan cleaning kit (ok, no jokes about the tan cleaning kits-I heard enough this last weekend to last a lifetime) is a single line. I haven't seen the double line before. (oh great, ANOTHER variation to look for) Here is what I have. Maybe we need a whole cleaning kit super thread.

I have a one line arr4 kit that is identical to the one posted by dot. I still haven't been able to nab one with the fabricated style oiler...

Thanks Wolfgang,
Braunschweigische Blechwarenfabik has a wide variety of WaA inspector numbers in their kits. It was no doubt a huge manufacturer of Rg34 kits during the war.

Wolfgang et al,

Information currently available indicates that Braunschweigische Blechwarenfabrik GmbH, utilized four distinct letter code and date variation stampings during 1944.

- arr4 (large thick font/one line)
- arr4 (small font/two lines "stacked")
- rco4 (large thick font/one line)
- rco44 (large thin font/one line)

This information is drawn from personal research, collector submissions (including yours) and observations of several thousand cleaning kits compiled into multiple database spread sheets. There may be other variations as well but I believe this to be the best information currently available.

If one counts the two different colors of paint used during this same time period there are even more variations for the collector to pursue!
