Mundlos 38?

Was sifting through some gear I got from my father's estate and stumbled upon a K98k bayonet. Sheathe and bayonet sadly do not match. Bayonet is marked Mundlos 38. I believe this company was located in Magdeburg. Is this a particularly (un)common maker?

I wouldn`t call them an un-common maker, but one of the better ones. That being said Mundlos, did split production. They made RG34 cleaning kits part of the year. As in example, six months bayonets, then six months cleaning kits (could be more or less)plus I believe they had other irons in the fire. Too bad the scabbard is not matching. that would of been a really sweet find. I have a 43 Mundlos matching bayonet and a 43 Mundlos RG34 (post is on here some where)that I got from different sources about a week apart. Pure luck. Post a pic or two of your bayonet and scabbard if you can, would love to see it. S84/98 III porn, nothing like it,lol.

Not an attack but I am curious where this information comes from and if there is any documentation to support the assertion? Not aware of any information that would suggest anything other than simultaneous manufacture of cleaning kits as well as bayonets. Mundlos' yearly production numbers for bayonets is consistent with other companies of similar size and is indicative of 12 month manufacturing. As stated in German Knife and Sword Makers (Anthony Carter), "by 1940 Mundlos was producing fifty thousand cleaning kits, 2500 transportation boxes for bombs, and eight thousand bayonets monthly." I believe they continued to manufacture sewing machines during this period as well.

Same opinion as Slash, is different type of production, RG34 is more a pressing mashines product, bayonet is more in mashining, filling and other procedures, the Mundlos is middle range producer. b.r.Andy

Some one either here or perhaps at another forum I used to go to on occasion. I will look back to see where that came from. It was what I was told about Mundlos and I thought that I had asked about it here after being told such. It was explained to me that the Mundlos bayonet I have, had a smaller production run due to the other "things" Mundlos was producing. If you guys say it ( the split production) is BS, then it`s BS. Thank you for the information and the correction. And if it was at that other forum where I was told this , well that will teach me.

Possible similar opinion could brought from the point that in 1942/3 Mundlos didnt increase production as other major bayonet firms, is real the bayonet production was only part production, not the main focus by Mundlos. Some firms like Diamant ,J.Sch, Gebr.Heller , Durkopp were not primary bayonet producers, but have this got in armament program of prewar period and post 1940 they were focused on other products, that german army needed. b.r.Andy

Pictures as requested (it only took a week for me to find them!)
