Unnumbered Long Side Rail

Finally I have a long side rail assembly and it has to give up some puzzles. As far as I can see, everything is original except for the rear clamp. But why is it unnumbered ?? The numbers you see look pretty similar to the Gustloff 1. It also fits 100%. What do you think??.Pattern??.
Excuse my Translator English
Regards Michael

Un-numbered mounts are likely mounts captured at the factory before being fitted and numbered to a rifle. Thanks for sharing yours.

The Mount is interesting but not because its an UnNumbered Machined Ring Mount but because of the type locking lever it has . To date I know 3 other LSR Mounts that have this variant Locking Lever and all of them are the Machined Ring Type and with U and V suffix . Two of the Mounts are on the Matching Rifles and other Mount by itself . Great Find .

My LSR serial 7835u matching rifle to machined mount has a locking lever like that.

Jack

Hi Jack
Yours is one of the 3 . I did not want to post pics of Yours or give any names . Thats why I only gave letter suffix and number I know of .

Thank you but why are my items all numbered ?? Is your mounting numbered tokarev38 ?? Why is there still no acceptance stamp WAA on it and why is there the Rheinmetall stamp on it ??
Regards Michael

Are You referring to Circle with Star in side as being Rheinmetall Stamp ????

As for Yours being UnNumbered and UnProofed its possible it was UnUsed , UnIssued Mount or it failed Inspection . That is Impossible to know why !!!! I have seen other Machined Ring Mounts with the this Stamp not all Machined Ring Mounts have this Proof/Stamp but some do. These Mounts could be the First Run of Machined Ring Mounts thats why the Locking Lever differs from Later Machined Ring Mounts and why some of the Parts have mating numbers on the different parts . Again Impossible to say for certain . Not enough surviving examples to build credible info/data .

But comparing Your Mount to mine and Jacks there are many similarities that makes me believe yours is also Original .

The SSR Mounts also have this Stamp/Proof Mark but not all do , similar senerio some do some don't . Why !!!!!!!!

Best Regards.

Dave and tokarev38, are both of your mounts marked with the Rheinmetall logo on bottom? And are the locking levers on both of them serialized on the backside? In Dave pictures it is visible that his locking lever also has the checkering at the very tip, as does the one from katana. I wonder if this is also with the one from tokarev38, since I can't make it out in the pictures?

Mine also has a checkered tip and logo on the bottom in the rail. It also has an assembly number (digit 2) next to the logo and on the back of the locking lever.

My Mount has NO Proof marks on Underside . Locking Lever is numbered and 359 Proofed .
As for Jacks , I know his Locking Lever is also numbered and it has 359 Proof but I can not recall if his has any Proofs on Underside .
I know one other Collector who has a Mount & Scope also a correct Dow . But I won't say who because I do not have permission .

Maybe he will chime in and share his Mount & Scope if he sees this thread .

Thank you Jack, highly interesting. While we may not know much on why these were made, it seems that these follow a certain pattern and that is important for identification.

Dave, I did not ask on proof marks but the Rheinmetall marking on bottom. So your mount doesn't have it? Also no assembly number on the backside of the lever nor on the bottom of the base?

My Mount has No Number or Rheinmetall Proof on Underside . The Locking Lever does have a Number which I stated in earlier post . The Number on locking lever is a 5 because it can not seen completely in the pic. The Base has a Number/Proof Mark as well , I attached a Pic that shows Lever & Base Markings . Best Regards .

Here you have some photos of my LSR mount , Machined Ring Type with U suffix : no Reihnmetall logo , in its place there is a number 2 , then all the parts of the mount have the assembly number 11 ( note that also the locking hook has it on the back). Locking lever checkered also on the top as the previous posted here .

According to "the book" and your website "All authentic LSR base and scope mounts have an e/359 present." Isn’t this mount an example that demonstrates there are authentic LSR bases and mounts that defy with this rule? Wouldn’t it be more accurate to say "Most" instead of "All”?

Yes. One of several things I need to update. This is the reason I wanted to create a website, so that I can update info as we learn new things. Thanks
