Combat vet Sauer

flynaked

Repo Field Gear Collector
This one was brought in for consignment along with this 1936 bayo, for what it’s worth it was supposedly picked up in Normandy by his uncle, who knows for sure but it sure is cool. There are multiple pieces of copper jacket visible throughout the impact, I couldn’t photograph it but there are some larger pieces even deeper. It’s a bolt m/m but ironically the bolt is a Sauer as well.

I like details like the left of the buttstock too, looks to be scratches from a chinstrap, I’ve had a couple like that.

JP Sauer, combat vet

Great looking rifle (and bayonet)…..if the soldier was carrying it when that damage occurred, he wasn't too happy !
Thanks for posting and the great pics,
Bob32268

Thanks fellas, you know how I love untouched rifles

Eric, the stock gives the impression of a graze at first glance but I don’t think it is. There is a fairly clean half round of a hole at a steeper angle where more fragments appear to be a good bit deeper, not exactly sure though.

Very neat rifle Clay! You do have a habit of finding the best bolt mismatches (I should know, owning 2 of yours lol.)
