EOD - bombs and bullets
I had spotted this for sale on another forum, for what I thought was a pretty decent price, so I passed it by Pat to see what he thought...his guidance helped me to decide to pull the trigger.
Pictures weren't great, but the guy said it was all matching but the bolt, I noticed the bolt was blued, so German re-work popped in my head. Of course since the bolt was mismatched, it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the base rifle. Still, for the price I figured roll the dice.
Got it in hand, and I think it is a really nice rifle. It is a straight up bolt mismatch, and as it stands is a Type II Cavalry Carbine, but of course if the matching bolt was bent, it would be a Type I from what I understand in my research.
Has a very nice stamp on the right side of the butt, but just Yugo stamps on the keel, no depot marks...this is the third type from the receiver side maker mark, so I believe it was manufactured between 1937 and 40 (?).
The stock has a nice orange hue to it when out in the light. Here are some quick pics...
Did the Yugo's use a sight protector like the VZ-24's? And what cleaning rod would fit? Would it be the same as a VZ-24 rod? I know its longer than a German 12.5" since it bottoms out and doesn't hit the securing nut...
While it would have been a nice bonus to have depot marks on it, it still fits in the Beuttewaffe category, so I am happy to have it!
