Here is a recent gun show find. Unit marked to the 2nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 11th Company. It's hard to see but the grip spanners have Crown/J acceptance on both sides. Crown/J is also found on the underside of the cross guard and scabbard.

Nice, but scabbard and bayonet do not really fit together.
The S98 a.A. bajonet is a Prussian one, only the scabbard is Bavarian.
Bavaria had no S98 a.A. in service. The adopted only the S98 neuer Art.

Indicated by the acceptance stamp on the spine. crown/W/01 => W for Wilhelm II.
Bavaria had crown over O or L over date.
The unit marking is for the Bavarian 2nd Reserve Infantry Regiment. Script/Italic R is always for Reserve units.
Thanks
Wolfgang

Bavaria almost exclusively used CGH & VCS for bayonets, trends for Reserve Regiments run 1907-1908, I didn't have a match to the 2nd, but based upon limited observations I would bet 1907 CGH, though it is certainly off a CGH or VCS bayonet.

Anyway, a nice set, but I would try to mate the bard to a Bavarian marked 1907/08 CGH or VCS (or any year Bavarian unit marked.. and in all cases, at least so far as I have seen that means CGH or VCS)

I looked in Carter for some other examples, here is a page that lists a few from the same group.
