Mauser KKW muzzle-cover: one size fits all?

Believe it or not, this Mauser KKW muzzle-cover was given to me by my doctor this very afternoon, and he would not accept any form of reward for this magnificent gift.
My question is the following: are KKW muzzle-covers supposed to fit any KKW, whether made by Mauser or not? This one does not fit my Gustloff KKW, so I wondered whether it might have been bent at some time during the past 75 years or so.

Regards,

Didier

Indeed, I may have decided too hastily that this was a KKW muzzle-cover : surely it was bent. Do you think it is safe to try to bend it the other way?

I would get it a little warm before trying to bend it back.. Cold it may beak. Warm it should bend with no issues.

Looks like it’s a Mauser DSM cover.
In Simpson’s book on page 621 has what appears to be the same Mauser banner marked
cover. The cover is listed as a DSM.
On page 622 Mauser mfg. covers are shown for the KKW and they are stamped
Horizontal across the flip cover “KKW” where the banner was stamped on the DSM.

Hope this helps.

Apparently not all were marked, here is my very late Mauser KKW with an unmarked muzzle cover. Cut for a sight hood but apparently one never installed.

Nice example ! And I believe you are correct about some unmarked as noted in Simpson’s
Book on the same pages (621-622 and others), not all covers were marked as being mfg. specific.
