matching DUV 41 recent pickup

Hello, just picked this matching DUV 41 up from axis-arms website, price seemed decent to me and I couldn't pass it up. I think this rifle will pair well with my mint CE 42, it's a little more worn and I really like the looks of it. I plan on putting a real sight hood and cleaning rod on eventually, a repro rod just won't do this one justice. I've talked a little with Hambone about the rifle and he's given me some good insight. Only issues besides the missing rod/hood are non-matching action screws and missing the rear locking screw. There was a little surface rust as pictured but it cleaned up really well without any damage. The wood seems to be original condition, no sanding or refinishing at all. My main question about this rifle is the missing eagle/H/waafenamts on stock. The serial number and letter block are present on stock as is a "P" as pictured. From my research (and Hambone) it looks like this is a late '41/early '42 P block, correct me if I'm wrong. Has a decent bore and I will probably take this one to the range eventually. All comments welcome, good or bad...I'm here to learn. I tried to take pics of every small marking/number I could find especially below the woodline, let me know if you have any pic requests.

Thanks!
-John

Very nice duv. The wood condition and finish is lovely though I couldn't stand the missing chunk from the bolt cutout if it were mine.

Matt over at Axis Arms has some neat stuff at decent prices, he sold me my first k98k (an RC 1940 237 - also BLM, that I sold on this forum a few months back).

Thanks for the link sir, that's a cool video. I live about 30 mins north of Fort Wayne, small world

Thanks mb44kar, yeah it is rough but I'll just pretend it's combat damage for now

Matt was great to deal with, answered all my questions and shipped the same day I paid.

Question about the rear sight leaf, has anyone seen this before? Looks like part of it was removed to open up sight picture? It looked odd to me then I compared it to other K98's and noticed a small piece missing.

Thanks
-John

That wasn't shown in any of the pics. It was probably ground out with a rat tail file. Why, who knows, bubba does bubba things. It's not period. A modification like that might allow for snap shooting, but would not provide a sight picture for any kind of precision. That missing portion is integral with the sight itself, which is a numbered part. That should have been mentioned in the ad and an appropriate reduction made for it.
