Kar88 and Gew91 sling info

Warrior1354

ax - hole
Okay as some here have noticed I'm trying to find a sling for one of these carbines but I really just don't know what to look for. There's just not a lot of information to go on plus I have not seen many examples floating around. We all know these are quite rare to find for sale. My question was the sling for these carbines the same length as the later made kar98a models? I do believe they were all 9 keeper hole slings though. I'm just trying to learn more even with some of the collector books it just doesn't mention a lot about sling info. Thanks

Some information from the Storz books.

K88 sling, old pattern with roller buckle (8 holes):
1,152 mm (for soldiers on horseback)
1,385 mm (others)
G91 sling, old pattern with roller buckle (8 holes):
1,385 mm

K88 sling, new pattern with „keeper“ (9 holes):
As above.

K98 sling, (9 holes):
1,152 mm (for soldiers on horseback)
1,360 mm (H-buckle), (others)

PS: about 4 weeks ago a K88 sling first pattern in excellent condition sold over here for almost $US 900

Here is one I owned 15 or so years ago... These came out of Germany and I suspect they may have been converted from 98a slings, hard to say, but in 2003 little was known about what was right. Germany is nearly as full of crooks as the US, Austria too, been snookered from Austrians a couple times.

Anyway, seen a couple others, MauserBill sold one in the same time frame, 2003-2005, I think a couple hundred bucks... TP over at Gunboards knows as much as anyone about slings.

There are better pictures of them in the field, but here are a couple, also seen 98a slings on them.

Thank you for the awesome information guys I really appreciate it and Paul I never knew you were a sling collector. Pretty awesome slings you had in your collection buddy. I'll be honest the only place I've been really hunting for a sling like this is eBay I've had no luck at the shows.

I too have been looking for a sling for my Kar88, and the pictures are very helpful. It would appear I am unlikely to find an original, but I can do harness making and could easily make one. It appears that one of those shown does not have a crosshatched pattern on the leather?
