Well I finally got my hands on a 98k or at least a place holder until I find the right matching one. Its a 1944 dot capture import marked shooter grade rifle. I picked it up for what I think was a very fair price of $475. The bore is dark but definitely shootable, has its original sight hood and (i think?) original cleaning rod but what I thought was interesting is that all the parts minus the bolt are all matching and correct to my eye including the stock and handguard. The bolt itself is a mismatch. The bluing is basically gone especially going towards the muzzle and the stock is dinged up for sure but surprisingly solid for a capture. However, I was almost sure what I was buying was a Romanian capture but the waffenampts were not beat to death like all the other Romanians Ive seen. Instead they were what looks to be carefully scrubbed (as far as captures go at least) and with the patina on the receiver, the scrubs are almost hardly noticeable. The one above the date is partially still there and they missed one waffenampt hidden beneath the stock. There are no other typical capture signs on the rifle. Now ive looked and looked and looked but i cant figure out which country must have done this. Im sure its one of the countries in the Balkans but I was hoping that maybe one of yall could possibly pin-point which country the rifle was captured in? Thanks guys for any help or wisdom yall can give me!!
