Lost this however. It’s in law-a-way. I’ve got dibs if the guy backs out. Thoughts? Value? PS shop sold it for $500. No marks on the stock that I could see and wasn’t able to look at wood underneath or disassemble bolt for serial numbers.

Bolt is actually postwar French renumbered, and the rifle is postwar French modified. Probably worth $500 but not much more. Some of these I've had the bores were shot out.

I know there are a lot of different explanations for bolt miss match rifles in the US; GI’s removing the bolts to disarm, easier to import in the 60’s on pallets, bolt in a bucket during cleaning ,etc. But it would seem that in Europe there were many rifles with miss matched bolts after the war maybe lending credibility to some of the other theories like removing the bolt after capture? Just something that popped into my head.

I’m also curious as to why many of these countries like France modified the sling. Did it serve any tactical advantage? I can’t think of any. I would suppose that after capture many of these still had their slings or does this point to a leather shortage or something of that nature?

I’d say compared to a Russian capture, especially for the price and depending on the condition of the bore, this would make a more desirable shooter.
