1937 s/243

I recently picked up a 1937 S/243. On the right side of the stock and also on the bottom of the stock there is a star mark in the wood. Can anyone tell me what this mark is? Thank you for any information!

At some point it’s had a front sight hood added, and the rear sight leaf changed as it doesn’t have any markings.

I believe that is attributed to a depot. Some repairs or something was done to the gun. I know the symbol is in Vol 2 of the book but I don’t have mine with me at the moment. Farm or Ryan E will come along and name the depot.

Most numbers match, except the rear sight which isn’t numbered.

Empire arms had a G Date Erma with the same depot star marking on the stock. This was a couple weeks ago when they had a few K98s and Carcanos.

It’s a German depot mark, but nobody has figured it out. It’s found on Mosin reworks sold to the Finns as well. The bolt doesn’t look renumbered
to me, maybe show the bottom inspections too.

I missed that. Someone probably got a smoking deal on a legit matching rework. I’d like to see better pics of the bolt on that erma.

Bolt serial is more clear from that angle. Good number.
