stock issue

Hi. Anyone seen this before? The grip area is shortened. Also one side of the stock is a bit concave. I guess the best case scenario is the grip was damaged and there were no replacements available at the time. Maybe the stock side just warped. Of course, I’m skeptical. It’s a 337 that matches but the bolt. Thanks

Regardless of the damage, a 337 bolt mismatch is likely worth picking up if the price is right!

Unfortunately that looks to be the case. By the way what year is the 337?

1940

What a shame. I was hoping against hope that it could be a field alteration after it was damaged and there were no spare stocks immediately available for whatever reason. It also seemed weird that bubba would only do this to it and not add a scope etc. Oh well.

So, the bolt only has one m/m part, the top. It’s WaA 37 on the underside. The rest matches. I can get it for 1k...

Other guys might have other opinions, but with only a single mismatched part, I think I would grab it for $1k...

Even 1940 337's aren't easy ones to get!

No they are not and this would be a good placeholder. Plus your getting a sling too and if it's nice your getting the rifle for $900. But you could always offer $850 for the rifle with the stock issues. You never know they may say yes or they may meet you in the middle for $900.

The right (extremely experienced) woodworker may be able to even graft a donor bottom section section of the wrist to this rifle. It could be worth a shot if you found the right color Gustloff stock to use as the source.

I do like it. It even has WaA 18 locking screws. Thanks

Then by all means, try and snag it....especially if you can talk them down a bit...for real, the damage doesn't look too horrible...there are times, at least IMHO, where rarity trumps condition...if nothing else it will be a great placeholder....
