If you look at the striations on the bolt you can see how it was machined unevenly. Some of the striations are still there and some aren't. It has not been messed with. That uneven surface and a strike at an angle and there you have it.

I would sleep well with this.
 
Note how much care and attention Steyr employees paid to their work. :shocked:
 
lol...thats some fine craftsmanship.
I can make out the numbering after seeing the serial number on the barrel. Cool gun.
 
I at first thought the bolt numbers were arabic! Until I saw the other numbers and then I could make them out. cool rifle I am likeing the late war stuff more everyday.
 
I would prefer it to a perfectly numbered one. Quite cool. Steyr, hands down, had the worst numbering of any maker.
