First I want to thank Wayne (mauser99) for his continued guidance and pointing me in the right direction to my own demise lol. We scooped this JPS HT off GB a few months ago and then thanks to Dave Roberts for having the correct scope and also emptying my wallet to complete this beautiful rifle. And both gentlemen for getting the rifle together and making sure the scope fit properly, that took some work, and getting odds and ends correct.
For your enjoyment and comment.

Ray , I have been waiting a while to see it in all it glory .Have to say it was worth the wait !!!! .
Very Happy too help You complete the Rifle . Best Regards .

It looks like they stamped the scope tube with the serial number at Sauer - that font on the tube is the same font that Sauer used to number the rifle. And the Plus below it looks hand engraved. Also love the fact that they filed down the hell of that receiver when fitting the front turret base. Very nice rifle!

What was the trouble with the scope fitting to the rifle?

Wayne and Dave would have to answer that exactly but the scope didn’t fit initially and Dave had to machine the middle piece on the scope mount down a little as I was told

Beautiful rifle and beautiful scope, congratulations to have find
mine is 6446 l and the buttplate is not checkered

Best regards

Original bases on the rifle and original rings on the scope did not fit??

Lovec 45515

The rifle serial number on the front mount is 6942.
It does not match to the k98 number, that is why bases of the k98 and original rings of that scope do not fit.
Regards

Thanks, but that does not answer my question.
Are bases and rings original? And why didn't they fit?
Were the rings originally hand fitted to the bases?

PM Dave Roberts or Wayne, mauser99 for the details. Seems the one piece at the rear was “off” by about .03 mm or so

Amberg, when this rifle sold at auction it had it's original bases still attached to the rifle (and I have no reason to doubt they are original to the rifle since they are Sauer high turret bases).

It has been my experience that Sauer turrets have a tighter tolerance then Mauser so it is harder to find a scope that will fit on a rifle (when it is not the match scope). I hope this makes sense.

I believe what Dave did was modify the scope rings to fit the bases.

Wolf
The Scope and Rings are Original with exception of the Rear Middle Part , I know that because this Middle Part was not Numbered and it should have been . The replaced Parts are Original Parts
The Foot of the Rear Middle Part had to have 0.50mm milled off so it could rotate/swing onto Rear Base .

I have had other Original HT Scopes be it Sauer or Mauser that would not rotate into position and it has always been caused due to the foot of the Rear Middle Piece .

Attached Photo of where material was removed from HT Rear Middle Part
