Hi all! One of my friends, asked me for help in bayonet identification. Bayonet comes without scabbard.
It has wooden grips, Waffenamt 253 and letter "a" on the opposite side of the bayonet spine.
I think, that military police bayonet, but l'm not sure...

This bayonet was likely destined to be a export "Behoerden" variation. However, with the addition of the acceptance markings, serial-numbered components, and flash guard, the blade was diverted to military production. The typical variation will be finished "in-white", have no flash guard, and no external WaA acceptance markings. However, some few may have a Eagle/WaA253 stamped on the tang, under the grips. Many were delivered to Spain (Fascists) during civil war there as military assistance from Germany. Have provided links to behoerden bayonets & frogs from earlier posts:

I have similar opinion, when not police proofed so its not a Police Behoerden piece, more real this was diverted to a export contract, the WaAproofs were used by some exports too. Personally i dont believe its from Spain contract. b.r.Andy

I agree. The matching flash guard & final WaA acceptance markings tend to support German issue. But, I do see similarities with the Portuguese M37 contract bayonets...
