Does anybody know if the paint is prewar?

I don't think so. The stick is certainly not prewar as it has the pressed on threads as opposed to the early examples that are held on with screws.

Yes the grenate is original but the paint yellow And the number 24!
 
I have not seen another example with these same markings. That is all I can really say.

Are there any markings on top of the can? Such as these. If there are not then I would say repainted. The can should show maker markings.

There are year 42 And three letter code on Can and Wood .but no marking like yours
