Here are the areas that I am not sure about. The slide on the rear sight is unmarked. The adjustable part of the front sight appears to have a wired 0 stamped into it. Could these oddities be correct for this early serial number in the first year of production at ERMA? The serial number is 1558.

A great gun for originality (see my post below) with high value. Few are known as matched examples... maybe three?!

There could have been some fiddling done with the sites. But, it really doesn't take away much of anything IMHO.. I think HB has a 27/g and couple Compare site components.

The look swapped out to me..

Your a lucky guy to find one of those out in the wild..Top 3 rarest K98k.

Agree! Those components could be a period replacement, or more recent. Probably no way to know for certain. Craig's rifle is also an RFV 2174. I assume the 2174 number is a unit ?

I agree the sight slide and front blade look replaced, but also that this is of very little consequence for a rifle like this. The slide could be period but the front blade looks to possibly be a SA contract part? I’m not one for replacing parts but if that is indeed a SA part and postwar replacement I have a few armorer sight blades should you chose to replace it. Great rifle and congrats to you!

If you’d like to further compare, there was a near mint one posted here some years back but is not in the sticky.

It’s a great rifle! As nice as any G date I have seen in a fair amount of time. If you just picked this up and the seller didn’t mention the sight being a bit different you should be compensated for that. It does make a difference. Anyway it’s a great rifle. Congrats! Mr. Jorey!

I agree it does make a slight difference on value, especially if you paid for an “all original” rifle, but still of little consequence to the desirability of this rifle in the big scheme of things. Of course opinions will vary!

Forgive me here, but what dose SA contract part stand for? I am still trying to learn some of you guys shortened language in regards to these rifles.

South American, I’m not entirely sure what the character is on there but it’s fairly reminiscent of many SA contract part markings, maybe someone will know better.

Joryfreeburg's number is "2174" and Hambone's number is "2114", the "1" and "7" just look similar. The R.F.V. numbers are not units, these R.F.V. property numbers are consecutive weapon numbers of the Reichsfinanzverwaltung. Here is another thread about the R.F.V. : R.F.V. - Reichsfinanzverwaltung rifles

here's one I once owned...
