Argh! You keep making me aware of items when they are already sold! Wish I had seen it, still missing this variant in my collection.

I had a Karab 98b action - complete w/triggerguard assy , that was only bolt mismatch. It was damn near minty condition and had the same scope bases on it. A buddy's grandfather had been a cop and shooter of renown before WW2. and wound up in ordnance in Europe. He sent home several boxes of actions he stripped of barrels and wood. Made a handful of beautiful sporter target rifles and still had a box of actions I bought from him at $50 an action. The Karab 98b all E/6 proofed was one of them. The bolt in it was a scarce polish Kar98a type turned down handle. Anyhow I found a buddy ( Rich Milton ) had two Weimar military marked scopes that were made for that type of base. Once Rich saw that action he had to have it and he eventually traded me out of it and using one of his scopes , then a bunch of karab 98b parts he horded he built it back into a proper looking karab 98b sniper. Where he found an E/6 armorers bolt , barrel and a superb 98b stock I can't imagine...but he always was a scrounger of excellent original parts. This was back in the 90's when the old KCN newsletter was still around.

I remember seeing this rifle and I asked for pictures and couldn't get any. Plus, I got a lot of coals in the fire right now and holding out for the SOS show.

That’s awesome, really neat rifles! I’m trying to think if I’ve even seen one before outside of original pictures and I can’t recall one. This one was built on a leftover 1918 receiver, really neat rifle, congrats to the buyer if they are here. A complete steal at that price too.

Anyone recall the maker of the rifle? I saw this one as well. If it's of interest, here is another, this one is Imperial, makes you wonder if there was some use of these at the very end of WWI. This is a 'c' block Danzig 1918.

The one from Auction was Converted to 98M . Would have been nice if some had been able to get some detailed pics of it .

Here is a Pic I just found

Yeah it’s damn cool, neat interwar build, single RR fraktur. Not too many builds around like this much less sniper iterations of the same.

Makes me curious about this m/m bolt in this one:

Yes indeed haha, the bolt is m/m but this rifle with the funny bolt bend got me thinking and wondering about this bolt.

Can anybody make out the suffix? Looks like an "a"-block.
Did the stock and/or rear band match?
Any other photos available showing the rear sight?
Thanks

No clue, I didn’t get any additional pictures, here are a couple more and that would cover all the photos in the auction. It does look like an A block, haven’t seen very many examples of these builds at all, it seems like there are more 98b’s floating around than these even.

Georg, the auction house was Pete Richardson Auctions.

**edited the serial picture, a tad easier to read

Thanks!
I'm still undecided if I like this rifle or not. More likely .... or not!

First of all, here:
http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread...arked-Rifles-and-M1916-Glasvisier-Study/page5
#47
we have a later rifle (c-block) with the early style bases.
The rifle shown here, (suspected an a-block) has the later style bases (patented in February 1919), and a wide rear band.
Quote from period document: It is considered not necessary to upgrade the sniper rifles with the new rear band, because a new type of sniper rifle will be introduced in the very near future.
Another important detail would be the rear sight. Is it the 1920s 100m sight for the S-ammo, or the 1930s upgraded sight for the sS-ammo?
In the early 1930s the Reichswehr didn't want to upgrade the sniper rifles with the new rear sight for the sS-ammo, because sniper rifles were regarded obsolete and needless. It seems that the sniper rifles were not upgraded, but I did not find a document to prove one way or the other.
Thanks

A downward view of Rear Base would likely help verify if it was Original would it not ???? . If Real/Original it would have been machined like this one . Not that it does any good without a photo of 98m just curious if it would be same ????
