G29o ‘a’ suffix

I’ve mentioned this rifle before. I bought it from an online gun store in their “fix em up” section. Advertised as a sporterized VZ24 which came with an extra VZ24 stock set. I can’t recall what I paid, but no more than $350-500 CDN including shipping, this was about 4-5 years ago.

Once I got the rifle I quickly realized it was no VZ24 and I was happy to realize it was a rather crisp G39o.

Due to the condition, I’m too scared to strip it down. The rifle is completely matching with Waa 623 stamped on almost every piece. Some of the stock cartouches are worn with handling. The rifle pretty much appears unissued. Only odd things I can see are an added serial to the bottom of the buttstock. Why it was added and by who I don’t know why when you look at the overall condition of the rifle and for what I paid for it. Bolt serial numbering also seems random with what may be an “a” marked on the bottom.
Enjoy!!! It looks good beside my 660 G29/40.

The gun looks to be in great shape, but the bolt looks off to me. It’s missing some serial numbers, and what’s present doesn’t give me a good feeling.

The stock has been cut back a few inches at the forend as well as looks sanded and cleaned. I think the number has been re-stamped. Greatly diminishes value in my opinion.

Oh well for the $260-375 USD’s and a VZ24 spare stock set I still don’t think I did bad.
Looking at it now and with feedback, I believe it is likely a duffle cut where the wood was lost or abandoned and the hardware fitted as we see it today. Bolt MM are common, but why someone would go to the hassle of re-numbering the bolt and the stock still confuses me as no financial gain was made. If I had paid top dollar I would be upset. Almost certainly worth more as a sum of parts. Thanks for the feedback!
