An assortment of features, makes this closet gun interesting... a birthday gift to self :). Here's what I see...

  • Late L-block, white glue Kriegsmodell, uncleaned, untouched
  • Scalloped receiver
  • Phosphated gun, with blued bolt
  • Broken firing proof stamp used
  • Polish trigger & FN sear
  • e E/221 armorers bolt sleeve, early cocking piece
  • Salvaged floorplate... clearly phosphated on inside (E.D. helped with the confirmation)
  • follower salvaged too, closes on empty, maybe phosphate too(?)
  • Green "1" in the untouched barrel channel
  • Barrel code: 44 D 972
  • Extra E/135 on receiver's RS

Good score Bob! The sellers pics weren't very good and I had assumed the floor plate was a post war replacement. Very interesting that it appears to be the original, I have never seen a salvaged fp on a MO build.

I have a Polish trigger on a byf45 so MO must have received a few of them for some reason.

Overall a very cool gun! The Kohler shrouds aren't very common and the broken proof is also a neat feature.

What kind of bolt is in it? An armorers spare?

Cool rifle Bob. When you say “scalloped receiver” are you talking about the machining chatter?

Yes, the tooling marks are my "scalloping"...

The bolt is a Astrawerke, and the floor plate was the question mark... The floor plate's condition/finish match to the TG is perfect, and the inside FP's phos was a clincher for me... probably will still be some doubters...

That's some rifle Bob! Really shows pretty clearly what was going on at MO at that point in time. You got a ton of interesting features packed in that one!

I love that one. I was bidding on it but went for more than I had. I didnt know that you were bidding as well.

L block for discussion

Interesting rifle.
I am curious and not convinced that a commercial non-stop follower would be used in military production.
Appears that the whole assembly is from a Banner K commercial build.

To follow up- are you saying you believe it’s phosphate in the inside and blued outside? To me it’s just a banner Mauser floor plate assembly on a late rifle, not too uncommon of a scenario.

I have handled the magazine on this rifle. The finish on the trigger guard and floor plate appears the same. They have the same patina on the outside. Inside the magazine well, the back of the floor plate appears to be the same as the inside of the trigger guard. I don't know if they would have used these parts on a 98k either but the floor plate looks to be phosphated and the parts would seem to have been together for a while.
