Luger updated

Here is a Luger that tells a lot of stories. It’s a 1911 Erfurt and it has a Nazi s/42 barrel and a depot mark on the slide. I have no idea what the clip is. I hope someone does. As far as I can tell from the rebuild marks it would have been done in 1939. The straw color parts were blued I assume when it was redone. The side plate is numbered on the bottom as was originally done and stamped on the side also as a 1939 would have been done.Hope you like it. Thanks Larry

That’s the ordnance depot associated with the work on this pistol given the marking. I’m not a luger guy in the least so hopefully someone will chime in with more details as to their typical rework practices on pistols. I definitely think it’s neat though!

That is a beauty Larry. Amazing to think that not only survived both wars but to still be in such condition.
Really nice. Thanks for posting it.

Clay is right a cool pistol for sure, I hope to have one some day, pistols that went through the depot system just aren't seen as often as other weapons. Probably because a lot of the crap that goes bad on pistols can often be solved by swapping parts small parts or rebuilding magazines. So as far as the gun goes, it was marked upon re-barreled, the blued small parts could be original to the gun, we would need to see if they're marked in the commercial style as well as renumbered. I see the take down lever is at least an original part. That being said, the whole gun was probably re-blued at the time the barrel was replaced.

The pistol is actually a 1911 DWM that acquired an Erfurt toggle train at some point it would be good to see if there was some form of renumbering on the toggle itself. I can tell you that the toggle itself has even had some parts replaced, the extractor isn't an Erfurt part at a minimum.

Again cool pistol, these don't get the attention they deserve.

Neat looking P08. The magazine numbered 486 II could be a saxon police magazine. I've got a similar magazine numbered 8290 II.

Thanks again for sharing your information with me. The side plate is renumbered on the side and the under side like the take down lever. All the toggle parts that are numbered all match. It’s a interesting pistol I agree. Thanks! Larry
