Shooting the Gew-88 with P-88

Did my second days worth of more test shooting with another dozen Gew-88 rifles . Spent 5 hours at my range with 20 different loads plus some original 1900 P-88 ammo . I fired 5 rounds of the P ammo in an unmodified Gew-88/05 , it did a 2.65 100 yard group . But the velocity string amazed me : 2210 , 2201 , 2212 , 2212 , 2215 fps . Next the K-88 did a 3.82 and 2104 , 2096 , 2102 , 2092 , 2088 fps . Only about a 100 fps loss with that short of barrel , I would have though more . Next I will shoot some of the P-88 in a .323 Z bore Gew-88 to see how that works . Of all the loads and bullets and rifles the Hornady .321 165 flex tip 32 Win special bullet shot well in many with a few different loads and the small group of the day at 1.56 . Another good bullet was the old Norma .318 196 FMJ RN , it did well in the .3208 Gew-88 standard bore size . It has a soft core , thin jacket and a cupped base with the lead showing , letting it work like the original P-88 bullet . As usual some rifles shot some loads better than others, or liked a different combination . None seemed to like the old Norma .321 196.5 FMJ BT bullet , tried with several powders and velocities . Now to reload the 400 test rounds . The weather was clear , calm and 82* .

Thanks for the interesting shooting report, they rarely are interesting to me... solid information on shooting the G88's is difficult to come by.
