Third Party Press

.

. . . . . .the mag plate is completely stuck no matter how hard I press the mag plate release. . . . .

I had the same problem with an ‘03 . . . .

Had to clamp the trigger guard in a PADDED vice with a small bolt to hold the latch button completely depressed (within the jaws of the vice).

This freed up both hands to use a brass punch and a hammer to LIGHTLY tap the floorplate to the rear. There’s not much area to get a good “purchase” on the front lip of the floorplate, but I was able to seperate the two.

Turns out, somewhere in it’s history, the engaging tab at the front of the floorplate was SLIGHTLY “squished”, making engagement with the trigger guard VERY tight!

Mitchell’s Floorplate

ditto what Jim F wrote,
but to add that I’ve had some success using hardwood dowels and even reshaped popsicle sticks as non marring punches (& scrapers). For this particular job I use the hard face of a plastic hammer against the round end of a 3/8” diameter maple dowel, the work end shaped into a “flat screwdriver blade”. Can be reshaped as needed, doesn’t leave “chalk marks” as brass sometimes does.

So!!!!!! Whats the issue with Mitchell Maulers????? I haven't kept up on the posts etc..... Saw one at auction several years ago.... that's about it......

"Mitchell's Mausers" is kind of like gay inter-racial bestiality scat porn, only without the singing midgets and lesbian dwarf sumo wrestlers. :googlie

Im surprised the tight a$$es around here havnt kicked you off for heresy. The only thing worse than a Russian Capture is a Mitchells Mauser.......

Mitchells takes regular, import graded K98's and 1) Polishes the bolt 2) refinishes the stock 3) Obscures, grinds, overstamps or otherwise obliterates markings to make 'matching guns' and then 4) sells them as 'Historic, 1 of a kind, rare Nazi collectables'. Oh, but they include a free ammo pouch or CD of 'Enemy at the gates' with every purchase so its totally worth it.

I'd contend that an RC with original serial numbers and Waffenamts is still worth more than a total hump-job, but then again when I think about it, what's a Mitchell's mauser? Oh right...
