Fake Waffempt/Refinish?

I've been giving this warped waffenampt a funny look for a little while because there's no wear which would explain why its "worn" to the point of missing a letter. Is the marking fake? Is the cover refinished? Maybe the marking was shitty from the factory? (Keep in mind, this IS an AC 45 gun). If anyone is willing to toss around some ideas of give some insight, it would be greatly appreciated. :^)

There was only one manufacturer making these covers, Merz-Werke in Frankfurt, WaA44. No need to fake, every cover is original.

No worries on that cover. Completely correct - often the WaA is lightly marked and sometimes absent. To my knowledge, no one is making a copy of the cover yet for commercial sale, albeit SSD must have made some for their rendition of the G/K43 and Shoei would have a version also.
