This picture was in a collection I got last year, I have seen it on the net several times so it is not new but the back of the picture is interesting.

Nice photo! He's even wearing one of the ridiculously rare and sought after MP44 magazine pouches.

I've always wondered what they thought when they saw those rifles. A Garand they're definitely not.

I know what they thought. They thought “damn that’s cool looking” just like we do today. Lol.

Kids: "Dad, what did you do in WWII?"

Dad: Produces photo of theater-grown goatee and Stg-44

Kids: "You're God."

By the way, why is this ID'd as somewhere in France? Am I misinterpreting 'Salzburgen?'

I have seen other period press photos with not quite right captions. Love how it’s a Schmeisser.

And unknowingly, at the time, a much more accurate term than calling the MP38/40 a Schmeisser, as at least Hugo Schmeisser was actually heavily involved in the design of the MP43/44, whereas he had nothing to do with the MP38/40 design.

Just to point it out. This GI is wearing the wool lined winter bibs (tanker bibs), over a winter combat jacket (tanker/armor jacket), then has a standard GI web pants waist belt wrapped around all this, with an MP44 pouch attached. One of my favs! And he's obviously got an M1 rifle at hand (bandoleer). Bet he's armor infantry

In the movie Fury there's a scene with a few GIs with stg44s somewhere in the beginning. Was wondering how realistic that was but it is set in April 1945.

Couldn't find a pic of it so have to settle for Brad

That is a cool, pic hopefully it made it to the states. Here’s a pic I found that’s pretty cool too.
