My unissued 1933 Banner DRP

Senior Member
Here’s an unissued 1933 Banner K DRP. I say unissued based on the overall condition and the fact that it has no markings indicating that it was ever issued to a postal region or unit. I particularly like the Mauser logo muzzle cover. I’m curious about the cleaning rod mark if anyone has any ideas.

Nice Rifle. I use to have one a long time ago mint. Sold it at the SOS. Love those banners. They have the best steel in the Mausers . Cleaning rod looks foreign to me, Might be wrong on that.

Original, yes. Unissued is always a question, but other Banner K’s from late 1933 all appear to have been marked in the sling slot and/or stamped on the butt plate with markings indicating where they were issued and the rifle number. This rifle has neither, so that and considering its condition, it appears not to have been issued as most were. Doesn’t mean it didn’t sit in the back of some closet in a postal unit. I would say that a previous owner, perhaps whoever brought it back, was a bit ham handed and pulled out a sliver of wood in front of the trigger guard in disassembling the rifle and clearly tried to tighten or remove the cross bolt, but those are the only problems I see.

Ah! I see where you are coming from, the bolt appears a bit wonky. I’m not sure what to make of that, I have owned the rifle for over forty years, before I saw much wide spread faking and I only paid a few hundred dollars for it. Clearly the last two numbers have been corrected but all of the other bolt parts are correctly numbered with no grinding or corrections. Don’t know what to say but I have another Banner K 1934 DR where they screwed up the stock number so the cartouche matches the serial number but the channel number last two digits are reversed. Might be bad, but it all hangs together awfully well.

Sorry, that I’m not seeing. The sling cutout, cartouche, ginger grooves and bolt cutout are far too crisp for that in my opinion. Where there are old handling marks they do not seem to show evidence of sanding or scraping. Still, I do agree the bolt has problems, so I’m always willing to be wrong and to learn, that’s why I’m in his forum!

Current thread

The stock was likely stripped of its original factory oil finish.
Every original Banner and Standard Modell I have owned has had this factory finish.
Not a deal killer but a point to be considered.

I have attached examples from two other 1933 DRP issue Banners I have.

Many thanks, perhaps a solvent that didn’t raise the grain. That would explain the crisp surfaces but lack of finish. The bolt remains a problem tho......this is the place to learn, I should stick to my comfort zone, Inperial rifles!
