    Default 'B' block 1941 G.98/40

A recent pick-up. This is about mid-range for 1941 rifles, and shows honest wear. It's all matching, and it is interesting to see the little differences between numbering of components between these (under WaA 56) and the later rifles. Truth be told, I enjoy these more than K98k rifles, even though I really like the latter. It seems that logic would dictate that with these starting distribution in 1941 that the details of the contract were hammered out before that, maybe even in 1940 or at least very early in 1941. If that's true, it suggests that Germany had already anticipated the need for additional supply streams of small arms, possibly even before the invasion of the USSR. Hungary was a less than enthusiastic ally of Germany, but was far enough away from the reach of concerted Allied air power for long enough to continue producing arms for Germany until the contracts expired in 1944.

Very nice rifle and not easy to find. These things have superb quality right to the end of the 44 production.
