Uncommon sniper worth a peek.

So a few weeks ago I was poking around on a gun selling website and I noticed a 1941 pu sniper, hmmmm; well not really since the seller listed the scope as the rifle year. I normally don't look at something like this but as we all know, a lot of times folks don't know what they are looking at so I peeked. When looking a little closer, it turned out to be a fairly uncommon Izhevsk 1942 pu sniper still in sniper configuration. Typical post war refurbishment but very cool nonetheless, at least to me. It even has the early style base mount without the cutout on the upper rear of the base. Anyway, I finally have taken some ok pics to check out. Oh by the way... I called the guy at the gunstore who had it on auction and he said because the stock was in such bad shape and he did not have time to redo the stock (yikes), he would sell it for 700 bucks... everyone was a winner that day... the consignee, the gunstore, and me too.

So the original scope year of 1941 must have been the year of the rifle to this guy.... sounds good to me.

Very nice. Tough rifle to find. Does the rear sling cut out have a half liner or no liner? Can you make out the inspection stamp?

Thanks Matt, typical wartime izhevsk half liners and the refurbishment has covered the wartime cartouche.

Cool PU sniper! Looks like a nice fresh from the arsenal refurbished PU sniper. Is the barrel nice?

Congratulations on a nice 42 Izhevsk PU with early PU scope with SVT type tube. You got a heck of a deal. You do need a 42 Tula PU too, not to mention the 47(42 Tula harder). No such thing as enough. It is amazing how well these shoot but look so rough. Range report would be good reading. Enjoy.

Forgot to mention, appears to be an early Century import with the less than noxious import marks. Nice.
