Picked this up several years ago in a lot with a Jap Type 99 and a Marlin 60 for $500. The K98AZ has all of it's Imperial German markings still in tact and is in beautiful shape for being a 1912. This rifle is not a 1920 marked rifle and is not import marked. All serial numbers are matching apart from the bolt. Yet the stock and the receiver ring sports an odd marking. Stock marking is Br. 1 and the symbol is right near the Imperial German proof marks. I cannot figure out what these stock markings are.

Cool Kar98a! (The az designation was at best a trials name for it-- the "a" came about in Weimar times to differentiate it from the Kar98b. For WWI it was simply called the kar98-- but I digress!)

The Br. Is an as-yet unknown marking. That appears to be a KS brand too-- I have a rifle with the same marking and we are not yet sure what it and similar markings mean. Thanks for sharing though.

Here's mine for comparison. It's on a Gew 98.

Also it appears you have the KS symbol on the right receiver. Cool-- again for comparison-- they marked it on the barrel collar for Gew98.
