First year VZ24, German modified, bolt MM

I refilled the German VZ24 slot after having sold the last one to help towards the NPM carbine and the M17 Winchester. Found this one on GunBroker, and as it was in RI, I ducked over to Providence to pick it it up. I have a cleaning rod coming, but supplied the original sling and sight cover from my parts kit. While cosmetically nicer, the last one was a mismatch. This one is an honest bolt mismatch - and a correct blued bolt (no serial, but "U2" underneath) - been there, done that, 96 year old combat veteran. All German marked metal parts match including the stock (front band, trigger guard, floor plate, ejector box, butt plate), which has it's original Czech number vertical on the butt stock and a marked unit ID disk. Stripped it down, wiped down the stock, and cleaned out old grease. Hand guard was cracked (common), and I glued it. Touched up the front band with some cold blue where someone had tried to take it off with a chisel. Action screws were damaged, but as they were the original Czech, I left them be. The only drawback is the somewhat toasty bore that I'd rate as fair....there's still rifling, but pitting along it's whole length, but still shiny. No proof marks, no import marks. Not bad for $500

My two gun racks are full; seven allied and seven axis. I'd still like a M96 Krag some day, but I'd have to let something go.

Only mark I can find is a “L” on the stock comb.

Nice variation / it seems there were no hard and fast rules on the German Military's Modification Work Orders governing these rifles

So the stock disk is:

43P

10612

Any clue?

Doesn't close on a field gauge; good to go. Don't know if I'll have time to shoot it...hip surgery TH.

Czechoslovak 43 Infantry Regiment, the unit number is really high, mostly of depot rifle.

I doubt the "L" on the stock has ant significance?

I think it's somewhat of an unknown, but consistent marking. Possibly some sort of inspection of the like, probably done by the Czechs. Both of my German modified VZ-24s have letters at the wrist. My German depot build and DOU 42 G.24(t) do not have any letters as shown in the picture.

Had to take it down again to ream out the cleaning rod channel to get it in. On the barrel is the serial, S783, and a "V".

Took it to the range today. 87F, sun, breezy. 100 yards, 20 rounds new PPU. 300M battle sight. Aiming at the bottom of the target, 2 misses. Aimed center, two hits low left. Set sight to 500M and began hitting. Still left; had to counter aim right. Hits climbed as barrel heated up. Moved the rear sight back to 400. Action was smooth, and no problems. Repaired crack held fine. Returned cleaning rod to get one with better threads. Since I can't find it, I assume I immolated the original rubber muzzle cover. Bore cleaned up fairly well, although there is still roughness.

Friend in NH sent me a real patina-ed VZ24 rod. Fit perfectly; other must have been some sort of variation. Look forward to trying again now that I know how it shoots. A closer look at the bolt shows "13" on the cocking piece and safety...so almost matching (83).
