dou45 e block with canvas sling

No War Eagles For You!
Staff member
Recent swp45 post with odd leather sling prompted me to post this rifle. It has a canvas sling purportedly on the rifle when the gentleman(who I bought it from) got it from the vet. My own opinion is that these makeshift slings are not some type of official issue, rather expedients by German or GI's as a way to carry a rifle when no proper sling was available. This material appears to be WW2, and is held together with helmet split pins. There are legitimate canvas slings, but none that I am aware of for the 98k (there are MP40 slings from canvas). This rifle is from the next to last letter block, and is all phosphate.

Ugh mike u kill with these finds. Honestly I woulda said couple years ago that all dou 45 post b block went east. coolest thing to see is the unfinished state of the bolt with the seam showing on the knob. We all know what the last bnz 45s look like but could only guess on the last dou's till mike started turning them up. At least now we know, even if we can't own ;)

Mike, beautiful rifle, I would LOVE to find one like that. I am probably too old for you to adopt, seeing as I may actually be older than you...::behindsofa:
:jaw:

Bumping this, came up on another thread. This is, as far as I know, the latest matching dou45 seen. Anybody have one later, or close to this one? So cool to see all phosphate dou45 and some of the production expedients on this one. Some may have never seen it.

That's a great piece! It's interesting to see how the quality of their metal finishes finally declined. The bolt knob is really cool IMO. I like the PB rifles and this one is quite appealing. Thanks for bumping this as I'd never seen it before.

That's such a beauty! Congrats. Makes me wish I wouldn't have sold mine even though it was imported. With peened eagles but correct configuration. Stupid I sold it.k98 009.jpgk98 269.jpgk98 271.jpg

Man, That is scarce find Mike. Cool sling too. I just now realized this is an old thread. Nevertheless I did not know the serials ran that high. I love these late war rifles too (actully all periods)! I purchased this one from DAK years ago when he was selling his collection off. Mine is missing the abdeckblech. It was DAK's opinion that it might not ever had one judging buy the wood appearance. you may already recognize it.
