DSM34 Measurement

Hello all,

Im curious if any of you would mind measuring this section of a DSM stock if you have one. Right after the step down under the barrel band. I have a duffel cut example and it looks like the piece of wood went missing over the years. Before I have Leszek make one I'd like to see if I can sort it on my end. I'm very much grateful to any and all help with this measurement. Thanks chaps

My early Mauser DSM, No. 700, measures 139mm from the front of the rear band to the front of the front band plus another 2mm to the end of the wood.

What make is your DSM34? They are supposed to be 160mm, however, this changes from manufacturer to manufacturer and whether its a DSM34/36.

I pulled a few of mine out and measured them:

BSW SN 187XXX (DSM34) = 160MM
JGA SN 87XX (DSM36) = 165MM
JGA SN 66XX (DSM34) = 160MM
WaffenStadt 1935 SN 64XX (DSM34) = 158MM

Ah! I see the problem. It appeared to me that the dimension he wanted was from the front of the rear band to the front of the front band. From the BACK of the Rear band to the end of the wood looks to be ca. 158mm.

Fellas, thank you greatly for the info. Looks like I'm missing about 48.5mm worth of wood. The plan is to have have Leszek at Fox make a new front part and then cut back the stock under the barrel band to give myself a much better repair than what was on the rifle. That being said, he wont be able to do it for 4 months so I figure I might as well give it a shot on my own because the stakes are so low. Whatever I try and fix will just end up getting off anyway. Its a JGA so I'm shooting for the 165cm measurement you mentioned.

So my thoughts are as follows. Take my two pieces and drop a 48.5mm wide block of wood in between them, epoxy it all together, spend the next week filing it. I'm not a wood worker but heck it's worth a shot right? I'm not entirely sure how I'd line everything up during the glue up as the unfiled block of wood makes it impossible to wrap it to the contours of the barrel. Guess I'll have to eyeball it. Anyone have any thoughts on what kind of wood this is? Walnut? Would love some advice on this planned repair if anyone has any.

Hello all,

Thank you again for the help. I snagged a chunk of walnut from the farmer up the road and went ahead and added the missing wood. Thank you again for the measurements.

Looks pretty good, turned out well considering what you were working with.
