At the last show that I attended, I picked this one up from a old dealer that specialized in Winchesters just as he was setting up...he had 2 RC k98's sitting on his table and said he had one more but they were all the same price. This is the one he pulled out.

Looks like a BSW barrel, which is uncommon, - BSW did supply a lot of barrels during the Republic, but by this period very few. They did supply JPS significantly, but finding one on a depot re-barrel is uncommon.

The code and what can be made of the waffenamts (WaA4) on the barrel suggest BSW made, you might do better pictures of the waffenamts. Though it will not change the value of the rifle having a scarce replacement barrel, it is interesting. In about 20 years I have only seen this use half a dozen times, - most of these went on BSW and JPS rifles, not to the depots. The most interesting thing is these few lack the 936/dfb ordnance code, which most of those supplied to JPS possess...

Nice, thank goodness he was a Winchester expert! What a score and it's a good thing you got there early because it wouldn't have been there a couple hours later. And thank you for posting up the wonderful photos as well thank you for taking the time to do that.

And man do I miss the show's. I've not been to a show since the SOS show in February

This one speaks my language. Incredible find. I would have had that cash out so fast!

One of the finest RC's I've ever seen. It brings great joy to see it. Thanks!
This one should go in the picture reference index!:hail:

Oh that's a for sure. Anyone who knew what they were looking at would have snatched it up/.

thank you for posting up the wonderful photos as well thank you for taking the time to do that.

Yes, thank you for the photos. If you can take any more photos of things you find it would be great. Thanks again!

So piling on even more for how shitty of a buy this was. Not cut for a hood. '38 barrel. Super early Astra butt plate. Any guesses as when this was reworked? Gotta be really early.

You killed it bro. Mr Winchester don't kno doodly squat about K98ks

Given the lack of a barrel SN, I'd say this is probably a later one.
