bnz. 41 Kriegsmarine

hale1940

Canadian Fabio
Hey there,

Here is a rifle a I picked up a few days ago. Its a bnz. 41 Kriegsmarine. There are a few minor spots of corrosion on the metal, but the bluing is still excellent and all in all she looks pretty fantastic (to me at least)! All numbers matching, except the floor plate and follower, which match each other. The floor plate also has the proper waff-77 and is only a few hundred serial numbers off from the main serial number, so it seems that there is a pretty good chance its a war time troop swaping/mixing up of parts. Let me know yours thoughts!

I honestly believe that you have the real deal here, but please send us photos of every aspect of every part. The wood is great and I believe undisputedly correct , the receiver looks a little shiny but original. I'd like to see close ups of the numbers on the bolt parts , barrel bands, and the bottom of the bolt root. I've not seen the BP stamp in the sling cut before and am hoping that someone else has seen it and can tell you the meaning.

Could be the lighting, but the receiver looks buffed to me. One tell is the lack of the tiny step on the receiver ring. You can see what is left of it along the woodline just under the last WaA623 acceptance.

Just out of curiosity, what is the acceptance on your buttplate? 623 or something else?

The butt plate has a waff code 37.

Ya im wondering about the bluing to, if perhaps at some point someone had it buffed. It looks shinier in the photos then it actually is, but it does have quite a bit of strong bluing gloss to it.

Here are some more pics

I don’t think you could remove that line in the receiver without washing out that forward waffenamt. It’s sharp as can be. Firing proof is also very crisp.

Take some daylight photos out of direct sun light.

I’ve never seen the gun in person but a couple years ago was sent photos that better show the condition. 6B2FDB38-F9DE-446C-8D0F-A2E7F64651C8.jpg0E35ABED-FE1E-4F52-A927-1D1F83B8BDFE.jpg

I was having some of the same thoughts about markings and effects of buffing, but Ill take some better outdoor pics tomorrow.

I have never seen a BNZ 41 with that much blue??The trigger guard has very little blue.I agree with RyanE about the missing ring on the front of the receiver. Here are some images of my G suffix BNZ 41 Marine for comparison.

My photos are frankly a bit to bright and make it look shiner then it is. But it does indeed have very strong bluing. It actually looks a lot like this rifle... http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?6078-BNZ-41(think-something-is-wrong-here)&highlight=Bnz41

But Im going to post better lit photos tomorrow.

Im going to post more pics tomorrow, but I was told to post this photo of it in the warm light of a lamp. This pic does a better job of showing the actual colour and condition of the metal.

Looks fine in that photo to me. To remove that ridge, without losing sharpness on the bnz, and firing proof is impossible imho. Also the ridge should go right through the forward waffenamt. And it does not seem to go over that ridge, as you can plainly see on lots of bnz41. I almost bought this from a previous seller years ago and his pics showed what looked like an honest
Gun.

Thanks! Here is another pic but of more of the full length of the receiver to give more
of an idea.

I remember this gun and the pics from the original seller. I'm with Andrew on the receiver not being buffed. I can't see how you could take enough material off to reduce the machining "ring" but not damage the bnz or side acceptance. Looks like a nice unit.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to get some more pics today but its hard to get decent ones, especially with a phone camera!

Here is a couple more pics (outdoors this time) for those interested.
