Help with I.D. of mauser

King carp

Junior Member
Hello: I hope I have this in the right category. I believe it is a 98B mauser. Its numbers match except the bolt. My question does it look correct for a 98B? Also would any member have a rough idea on value? A friend said he could list it for me on one of the auction sites for a fee. A rough value would let me know whether that would be worth doing. Thanks in advance, kc

Can you provide more pics? Top/left/right side of receiver ring, trigger guard markings, front/rear band, rear sight etc.. if it's truly a bolt only mismatch it's quite valuable.

More. Thank you for your patience. I removed the action from the stock to give it a good cleaning. Let me know if you need any more pics.

It's a later series Simson Kar98b. I have one semi close to that range.

Looks right to me and the added Eagle P on the stock-- I'm giessing-- indicates police use. Cool rifle. It's rougher shape, But rare and desirable. I'd say $1500 would be fair. Auction, possibly more. You'll probably get a few members offering so it might save you the trouble of listing it.

I have spent five years trying to find one Chris lol. I would be interested but that's up to the gentleman if he decides to sell it though. Nice rifle

King Carp, if you want to sell, Warrior1354 is a fantastic guy. You'll get a square deal from him.

Although the pictures leave a great deal to be desired (if you do auction it, buy a decent camera or borrow one as good pictures are critical to getting a reasonable sale price) the rifle looks desirable (valuable). A late d-block is not the rarest block (generally I break the variation down by certain patterns, date, SR and RR changes, which largely break down by blocks), the most common block are e/f-blocks, especially among the upper grades, but d-block and 1925 are nearly as common.

The canceled E/H and application of the E/P surely is police related, you see E/P often on 98a of the period, this should help interest and value, but you REALLY need to do good pictures when relying on specialist interest.

Thank you for all your input on this rifle. It is really neat to find out it might have been a police used rifle. I wish i could find out where and what this rifle has been through. I do know it has been in the U.S. at least since 1975. That is when I acquired it. I am going to clean the bore and see what it looks like. I will have to decide whether to sell or trade or keep it. Thank you again for your time.

Whatever you do, don’t try to clean the gun. No scrubbing, no solvents, no oil on the stock, no steel wool. Wipe down gently. Please.

Any markings on the take down disc?
IIRR only the Bavarian Police had K98b rifles. All other Weimar era Police forces had the K98A.
Thanks

Markings

The takedown disc is not marked. I cleaned the bore. There is some light pitting and some copper fouling. The chamber looks good.

Thanks

I would like to thank all of you for your help on this rifle. I will be selling it in the future. This is not in the area of my collecting. I will take your advice and get a better camera! Thanks again for your time and expertise.
