Is this the original finish on my byf 45 Mauser stock?

Is this the original finish Mauser stock?

After reading on the forum, I got to wondering if my stock is original?

Stock was sanded and had a varnish put over it. By the whitish areas, do you mean on the stock? Those are probably scuffs and scratches that occurred after someone redid the rifle.
 
You can see the “varnish” that was applied and then dried over the recoil lug on the left side, indicating refinish. Ditto on the inlet for the sling keeper.

Phosphate finished guns are desirable, but the stock condition hurts it’s value...IMO
 
May as well remove the varnish and maybe re treat with BLO. It will look much better without it.
 
I think it looks nice, probably an old varnish job. Pretty rare “ch” code cocking piece! Nice gun!
