This lower bolt flat does not seem to have either the Prussian eagle or the Amberg lion proof, is it an Imperial bolt? The SN on the top of the bolt flat has been scrubbed.

thank you,,

I had about 6 or 7 of these I got from buying three buckets of gew98 bolts from a guy out of Maryland back in 1999. There was so many armorer's bits in those gew98 bolts and armorers bolts it wa samazing. These were all from turked with imports that had been turned into bubba guns - excepting the bolts of course. I got like 80 + gew98 rods from the same old fellow too back then. Ah those were the days !.
None of the bolts had been scrubbed or blued by the turks. There was even a scharfschutzengewehr bolt in that lot too. I traded that off to the scope guy in Victorville CA...I kinda think later on I heard he had renumbered that bolt for a (fake) sniper. If you see a gew98 sniper with last two #44 in serial that's likely to be that bolt.

I also got a very nice beech armorers stock off a turked gewehr98 that was never serialed. Put it on a Spandau 1916 that was otherwise matching and very decent..think paul got that one from me - that was some time ago come to think of it.Oh and I had that gew98 rebarreled with a superb armorer's barrel taken off a super nice turked gew98 too. Was a good shooter.

Not to disagree, however I will throw this out there... I can't be sure how the top figure is defined, but it did strike me as "possibly" a M/Anchor and that is sometimes seen on G98's which are assume RM (navy) service (usually builds), but so far i have not seen this marking on a bolt lower flat. It is sometimes seen on the barrel and or receiver, though there are several forms of RM proofing and acceptance in the interwar, possibly early national socialist era.

Maybe tighten up the picture if possible, I can't be sure that is an anchor under the "M", but if it is maybe there is a correlation. Anyway, just a toss out to confuse or possibly stimulate the discussion!

** Yes Bill, I received a lot of good deals starting out from you largesse! I also remember those early Turks and the value they had in parts, armorer spares and rods often made them worthwhile.. a couple nice ones surfaced too.
