BNZ 43 possible local trade

all matching BNZ 43 local pickup

Hello I'm working on a possible local trade with a collector friend of mine. All matching with original sling, excellent bore, great shape overall. Stock does not appear to be marked externally but it is matching internally which I believe is correct. Stock looks good, doesn't appear to have been sanded or refinished. Am I correct in that it's a b prefix?

edit/ It looks good from the pictures but I have not seen it in person, I think it's worth about 2000 with sling, am I in the correct range?

Thanks!
-John

That’s a really nice rifle with astrawerk supplied receiver. Not the easiest to find variant

I can't tell exactly, but it almost looks like a Radom made receiver proof, versus a defined "1". Did Astrawerke receivers appear later than 1942? A close-up picture of the right side of the receiver would be good. I just can't tell for sure, nor do I know enough besides my reading about Astrawerke contracted receivers to say.

It is a Astrawerke receiver, they run (intermittently) from late 1942 through at least the c-block of 1943. Pretty uncommon though... a plus, especially in this condition. The TG is also good w/o the waffenamts, also commonly seen (intermittently) throughout 1942 & 1943.

Stock & bolt is good, stocks are generally devoid of external markings, except a small e/623 at the wrist/small of stock, almost always well worn and hard to see. BP are usually not marked, but sometimes (rarely in this range) sub-contractor marked.

Not sure what they are going for but $2000 is probably a good deal considering condition.

Very interesting, I didn't realize they contracted with them for that long. A really nice rifle.

Now if only the market would more closely follow your assessment of all matching value..... at least for mid war rifles..... wink wink

Not saying but just saying!

Once I get the rifle I'm going to sand the stock and fix up the metal if needed then post it on GunBroker for 3000

lol

Just make sure you start a “think tank” with Don Mitchell and Sweaty Ben first, to ensure you don’t miss anything in the process.

Great idea. You need about 175 or so 'glamour shots', a few dozen cool buzzwords and about 3 or 4 paragraphs of completely made-up history of this rifle. The latter should be easy since even just a few of the prolific sellers have posted hundred of paragraphs of total bullshit. Just reread some of those and make up your own 'story' that might fit this piece. Don't forget to mention the SS, concentration camps, slave labor and bringback. Whether any of that is true machts nichts.

Picked up the rifle the other day, it definitely has some nice honest wear and I like it. The sling appears to have been installed for a long time but no way to prove that. Finally found the waffenampt on the stock, bottom side of the pistol grip. I had looked there a few times and missed it. I took a few quick pics today, will do a full review on it with better pictures when I can.

Thanks
-John

Finally had a chance to take a few more pics. Added a nice sight hood that I picked up from mowzerluvr. Looks like a correct original cleaning rod numbered 39. My friend had this rifle for a few months and sent me some pics. After he mentioned wanting to sell, it got stuck in my head. Kept asking him if he still had it. Finally decided to make a trade, a couple mosin's and some cash later and now I have my second all matching original K98k.

My only question is about the overstamp on the floorplate/trigger guard serial numbers, just a factory mistake or something?

Thanks for lookin'
-John

Very nice bnz43 and some great pics too.

Factory mistakes and corrections like this are not uncommon, especially on Steyr production.

I agree, very typical of SDP, especially later in the war this is extremely common. While less enthusiastic about "factory mismatchers" than some here, corrected parts I think deserve less doubt because there is often supporting evidence, - like the overstruck "4" is distinctive to SDP. Further the lack of acceptance on the TG or FP is commonly seen in this range, sometimes one or the other, sometimes both components. Anyway, all you show supports the authenticity.

Do a picture of the underside of the bolt body, should be e/77 x2

Congrats! :happy0180:
It appears to be a nice honest undinked with rifle, with the less common Astrawerke receiver.

Appreciate the replies, especially knowing the overstamp on floorplate is ok, that was the last little thing I was worried about.

Attached a picture of bolt body, like you said e/77 x2!

Thanks again
-John

Completely agree with your assesment. 'Correct' part for range. No attempt to remove the error digit as many fraudsters would. Distinctive font. The 4 being directly above the 7 in a common stamp block doesn't hurt either. Steyr being well known for errors as mentioned. I really like the rifle!
