Finally I'm able to get this very interesting 1914 dated Gew98 posted up. Been a slow year for nice Gewehr 98 rifles. Too be honest I have not come across many rifles this year. But, I'm so happy I was able to acquire this special rifle from a very nice collector out of my home state here in Indiana. Strangely enough this rifle was found in Michigan the same state where my Amberg and DWM 1914 rifles came from. Anyway this rifle was bought at a small estate sale back in 2017 and I contacted the owner then, to help him in details and information for his fine Gewehr 98. Fast forward three years and I contacted him if he might be interested in a trade deal. Being I was on the hunt for all the 1914 made rifle. Again strangely enough I picked the perfect Gewehr 98 rifle for him my unit marked DWM 1908. What made the rifle so perfect was all the battlefields he toured in Europe last year that unit took part in the fighting. It was like the deal was suppose to happen. So we met and exchanged rifles and talked about WW1 and Gewehr 98 rifles for almost an hour last month. A very fine gentleman to do business with and I told him I will try to find a matching cleaning rod and nice original sling for his rifle one day. Again thank you very much Rob.
Now for the rifle it is mostly factory original but it did pass through a depot #7 Rastatt. They replaced the hand guard, the lower barrel band, Rear sight slider tab, and the complete trigger-guard assembly. I did swap out the mismatched follower and floorplate and installed some of my Imperial armorers spares though. Firing pin is matching but it is clipped which I will get repaired later on this year.
So in the end I'm very happy with this rifle, even though I had to let go of one my beloved early Gewehr 98 rifles from my collection. But I made it a goal that I would collect the entire 1914 dated Gewehr 98 rifles and now I'm 80% of the way there! Now what you guys want is the pictures and me to stop chanting!
So enjoy!
