I was able to pry this away from the Mauser godfather himself, after a few patient years. It is an interesting one because, like the SVW 45 a block posted a few days ago, it too is missing its final acceptance. It has every hallmark we would want to see in a matching optic late Mauser HT, except it lacks that proof. This one had been discussed in the past, but only limited photos were available at that time. We will never know for sure why that final proof was not applied, however, as is the beauty of this forum, we can try to make sense of it through discussion. Typical late walnut kriegs (drilled under buttplate), hand stamped barrel, milled mauser proofed shortened safety, matching letter on turret base as well as rear tang area, assemblers number, stamped under woodline, and penciled in the barrel channel, serial applied to barrel channel.

You should visit that Polish friend of yours and get a few dies to make it correcterrrrrrrrrr:googlie

Kidding aside, a truly marvellous rifle! There were plain K98k rifles captured in factory that weren't finished and fully accepted. I don't think there is a reason why this could not have happened to sniper rifles as well. So maybe this is the reason why some lack a final acceptance. Who knows, maybe also the Inspector teams fled.

A matching scope, walnut stocked byf45 high turret that is textbook but missing the final acceptance. Whats not to like?!! I love this rifle myself. I agree, could either have been in the factory for final acceptance or just plain missed it.

HT

To me this rifle is different than the other one posted due to the matching scope and all. It looks like it never left the factory, but who knows I guess. I would say the amount of solder on the bases with this one equals the other one. The majority of what I have seen have the proof, so I would say I'm more fond of those, but I will admit I could be swayed on this particular rifle. I like it.

It could also be a case where they started to drop the proof like on the ZF41's. The early BYF ZF41's have the WaA 135 proof and the later ones do not have the WaA135 on the rail. Although most of the later turrets do have the WaA 135 sniper proof on receiver. So, it is hard to say maybe.

Thanks for posting the better photos.

Damian, thanks for posting good pictures. I added it to the pic sticky thread.

I think this is a great rifle and have no doubt it is an authentic high turret sniper. byf45 with walnut stock and matching scope. I love it.

Damian , I can not imagine what you had to do or give to get that Mauser fanatic to step aside so You could buy this spectacular HT and I really don't want to know :biggrin1: . Regardless You got the better end of the deal . IMHO this is a Excellent HT , I would own love to own it !!!!!!!!!

Love the rifle. I think the most likely explanation for the missing acceptance is that the rifle was awaiting final inspection when the Mauser factory was occupied.

That thing is deadly! Sweet!! I don’t study snipers much but I agree a factory capture seems likely. If it was a matching Ac45 c or d k43 sniper, A missing proof wouldn’t be questioned.
