Модел 1924 ВТЗ

So I have this model 1924. It has no communist markings, nor any import marks. There seem to be no two numbers that match anywhere on the rifle, and I cannot make out any cartouches on the stock. The wood is varnished, as I think they were from the factory, but pretty beat up. The upper handguard in particular has multiple places where wood has been spliced in to repair gaps or reinforce cracks. The lever for the ejector/bolt stop has a Waffenamt, Erma I think. The bolt is somewhat dark, though it is hard to tell if it is patined bluing or just discoloration. The serial number is in the 255xxx range, which I believe means it was made in either 1933 or 39. There is no duffel cut in the stock, but there is a neat stenciled 58 rack number on the butt.
So what do you think? Would this likely been a captured weapon that was brought back by a GI, or perhaps this had been exported somewhere else? I wouldn't think it would have come to the States directly from Yugoslavia, at any rate. If you have any ideas or other information, let me know. Thanks! 20200925_170343.jpg

It looks like one of the Navy Arms imports that came in with a boatload of Mausers from Turkey back in the 1990's. It's possible it missed getting marked. Some of them were very lightly stamped. The painted rack number was often seen on these, as well as many other Turk used rifles. Here is an ad from 1996 for these...

Hmm, well that's not quite as interesting, but sounds more probable.
Do we know how/when these rifles ended up in Turkey? Before, during, or after the war?
Thank you for your response.

Nobody knows for sure. All the Navy Arms M1924 imports from Turkey seem to fall in a range of 250XXX-260XXX from what I've seen. I've only noted a couple dozen s/n's or so, so not a huge sample. The ones that had a cartouche were all Peter II, which should point to 1939 date production in that s/n range. Maybe the Germans traded some captured Yugoslav rifles to the Turks for raw materials? Who knows? It would seem the Turks took a shipment of 1939 dated M1924's at some point during or after the war. Still waiting to see one of those imports not in that s/n range. I had one that was a total mismatch like yours, and it also had a WW2 German K98k bolt release like yours.
