This is my latest addition. I asked a few guys here on the forum for help with this one. Between their help, the books and the picture reference here, I decided to try for this rifle. Thanks guys. I am posting it for review and all comments. If you don’t see a photo of some area that you guys want to see, please ask and I will provide. I don’t think it’s been apart in quite some time. The locking screws had dirt/grease worked into the groves. The front band came tough like the lubricant was dried in the front band. The sling was a little dry rotted near the keeper and there was some green around the keeper stud. The bolt seemed pretty well lubbed, but lube on the firing pin seemed aged. The extractor is the only odd feature of the rifle to me. The number on is either worn off, or was removed, possibly was for another rifle? The extractor is marked E/4 making it a bsw part (shown in the photos). The cleaning rod dose not match, it is marked like some early rods with a (K), number 75 and also E/8 I believe? It seems like a nice example of a tough to find rifle.

Well done, that is a very tidy early BSW.I would say the extractor is a replacement. This should go in the picture sticky, there is no 1937

Jory, this is a great rifle in very good condition  One among the rare maker/dates. Thanks for taking the time to show all the details. As you say, this is indeed funny there's no "48" next to the extractor lip (pic), however there's the expected e/4 at the bottom of the extractor slide.

How is the bore ? These pre-war rifles may have shot a lot of ammo, though the 7.91 diameter may lead to a lighter wear of the grooves than 7.9.

If you wish to complete your gallery, I advise you to take pics of the floorplate release button, the follower spring, the rear sight leaf spring and the bolt sleeve lock (pic). Alll of them shall have an e/4, I guess, and they are parts which are often overlooked.

Here is the recent "gallery" of my S/147 1937: http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?43502-Sauer-S-147-1937-block-b-Detailed-pics

Phenomenal rifle. For many, many years I have been a "bSw guy". This is the only matching 1937 I've seen. Best before that is a butt plate mismatch that I supplied the butt plate for the owner to restore it. Tough call on the extractor. Though bSw would have serial numbered it. My many bSw rifles have the sn on the extractor lip but are lightly struck so wear could have played a factor here. It does show wear in that area. If indeed a replacement it's a correct for the year piece with the correct eagle proof used by bSw in 1937 and very early 1938. Stunning piece. The cleaning rod would have had the e/4 and sn. but a 10" k marked rod is also correct and used for that firm and would be the first "k" marked 10" rod I've encountered. Luck & Wagner provided small parts such as extractor housings, cleaning rods and cleaning rod ferrule nuts for bSw/Gustloff. Good fit for the rifle. Now if only you had a correct muzzle cover with the bSw logo and the proper for 1937 droop eagle/204 marking you'd be golden. I hear there is only one of them floating about in the wild and the owner is a pain to deal with.

Really nice early rifle! Boy did you set the bar high with this one. Congrats!

I'm assuming this was the one that just sold on GB ? Id have to look to confirm but, there're aren't to many of these around. Id say you did extremely well.. Considering a more common code 42/39 did sell for 4k to get a bsw37 for 4700.00
that's a steal in this market. The seller did himself no favors and the hesitation of the bidders showed.. Sometimes in this hobby you need to take educated chances to get items like this.. Your gut paid off . I had a similar feeling this rifle was 100%. The extractor is a NON issue really as they did break often and were replaced..

Indeed the seller did not the pictures of the stock showed making the stock look refinished and clean. Instead it was original and correct. I'm glad a member here ended up with this rifle and did a wonderful picture set. I'm also glad he showed a picture of the inside of the stock channel and barrel code. I was hesitant because I remember that Frank guy sold some BSW k98k rifles out of California that he corrected.

I will say this if this member here posted pictures of his rifle like this on GunBroker my guess it would have hit above the $6,000 mark the way GunBroker has been looking lately.

Again a great rifle and wonderful addition to your collection sir.

Thanks guys,
I appreciate the kind comments. I must give credit to a few members here for their help. The sellers photos were truly bad, but I did have a few that he texted to me directly, which I emailed in to Dave which helped give me confidence to bid.

That's good to hear and you know poor pictures from a seller is what got my almost all matching 1940 337 posted here back in 2017 for around $900!

So you were the one who won that auction! Congratulations on your nice acquisition! Definitely worth a sticky for picture reference IMO!

Hard to deal with?

Thanks Dave I’ll take that as a compliment!

Nice rifle Jory. A very beautiful catch !
