Inherited a Mod98 Mauser - Have some questions

Hi all. My father passed away earlier this year and left me an a Mod98 8mm Mauser and an M1 Carbine. My dad was not attached to the guns and neither am I, as I am a handgun guy. The guys in the CMP M1 forum helped me greatly with the M1. I have done some basic research on the Mauser, but I would really appreciate some assistance. I would like to know:

1. What do I have?
2. What is its approximate value?

Thanks!

Frank

Brunn I rifle made in 1945, semi-kriegsmodell stock where the barrel bands have wood screws going through the stock, with no band spring or bayonet lug. However this stock retains the takedown disk by the butt end. The bolt is mismatched from the rifle so was probably grabbed from a capture pile, where GI's would grab a rifle and bolt without concern for matching numbers, and mail them home. Stock still has chatter marks but looks to have been sanded and treated after the war.

I’m sorry to hear of your father passing away, you have my condolences. I came here first right after my dad died, it was a tough time and I can sympathize.

Your rifle looks great but as has been said the bolt and the bolt release are mismatched.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your K98 and M1 and that you fondly remember your father when handling the guns you ended up with.
